2011’s Competition Results for Groby Tae Kwon-Do

Lincoln Interclub Championships, Grantham

Thank you to Shery Freer, Sue Hayward, Sai-Leung Lee, Muriel Scott, Kevin and Holly Morton for officiating at this small event. And a big thank you too to the following competitors without whom, Groby would not have come Joint third!: Sue Hayward, Ricky Judge, Kevin Morton, Holly Morton, Zak Morton, Connor Reid, Vincenzo Vanni, Giorgio Stylianou and Jessica Horton.

Highlights of the day? Having tied for first place in breaking, Sue Hayward proceeds to take her sparring kit off ready for weighing, only to be told by Louise Johnston "Don't bother, you've won!"

Midlands’ Championships, Kettering

On the hottest day so far and despite a dodgy SatNav (wanting to direct Muriel somewhere other than Kettering), and Jim McKenzie zzzooming past, Sai-Leung Lee, Simran judge, Robert Horton, Kevin, Holly and Zak Morton, Max Potter, Steve Stelianous (and his son), Vince and Mirco Vanni, Helen Thorpe and Sheryl Freer attended the Midlands' championships in Kettering.

Highlights of the day? Zak Morton winning Gold in patterns and Sheryl Freer winning Silver in patterns despite nursing a serious hip injury.

Welsh Championships.

Robert and Jessica Horton travelled all the way to Wales to attend the TAGB Welsh championships. It was a 300 mile round trip but well worth it as Robert won Bronze in the men's blue belt patterns category (performing Yul Gok Tul), and Bronze for individual sparring.

But what about Jessica? Though this was her first competition (being encouraged by her dad to enter), she won bronze for performing pattern Chon-Ji.

Fantastic!

South Midlands' Championships, Hereford.

2011 rolls in and on a frosty day in February, Groby Tae Kwon-Do's coloured belt pattern's World Champion, Robert Horton, got on his bike and travelled all the way to Hereford to take part in the South Midland's Championships.

Junior did the club proud walking away with Gold in the men's coloured belt patterns event, just missing out on medal in the men's heavyweight individual sparring, Silver in the Champion of Champions' event (for patterns) and Silver in team sparring.
